The Cannstatter Volksfest (Wasen) is a large festival with a long tradition. It was founded in 1818 by King Wilhelm I and his wife Katharina as an agricultural festival. Still today the 264-meter high, 3.5 ton, grandly decorated fruit column in the middle of the festival grounds is a reminder of what the young, beloved Württemberg Queen Katharina gave to the people of the country at the end of the 1818 famine. Today, Stuttgarters and their millions of guests celebrate one of the most beautiful and biggest beer festivals in the world.
Things are very exciting in the large beer tents. Up to 5,000 visitors can celebrate in each tent. Bands wearing traditional clothing ensure the cheerful entertainment, and the delicious Käsespätzle (Swabian noodles with cheese), roast, potato noodles with sour kraut, Göckele (roast chicken), or crispy knuckles are a good base for many liters of beer.
Looping roller coasters, haunted houses, racy water rides, and the largest transportable Ferris wheel in the world make strolling along the Wasen an enormous jamboree.
Bus departure location is from the Vogelweh Bowling Alley
parking lot.
